Capt. Sal Tardella runs fishing charters out of the Treasure Coast, Florida, from December through April every year. My Bonnie is moored in Sebastian, about eight miles north of Vero Beach and 20 miles south of Melbourne. Passengers are picked up across from Riverside Park, centered in the middle of this Old Florida fishing enclave.
Sebastian is located about 1.5 hours from Disney World in Orlando, and 1.5 hours from the Kennedy Space Center and NASA, and an hour from Daytona Beach. It’s minutes away from the Vero Beach Disney Resort, as well.
Tardella’s primary winter fishing grounds are located on the Indian River, an area surrounded by thousands of acres of aromatic citrus groves. The Indian River leads to both the Sebastian Inlet (where the River meets the Atlantic Ocean) and also to the very lush Sebastian River, the home of manatees and tarpon and all manner of bird life.
Local species are varied and include sea trout, pompano, redfish, grouper, ladyfish, bluefish and jack crevalles of every size.
